Why Now

The capacities civic life depends on
are under chronic pressure

People are navigating chronic stress and constant change, often while trying to do work that matters in the middle of fragile, high-pressure systems. Over time, that kind of environment can wear down the very things we rely on most when working toward the common good: our ability to think clearly under pressure, stay connected to others, make good decisions, and act in line with what we care about.

Resilience Under Pressure is an 11-week program for changemakers who want to rebuild those capacities — so they can stay grounded, think more clearly in difficult moments, and navigate complex systems without losing themselves in the process.

We focus on three core skills:

1. Noticing what stress and overwhelm look like in you own mind and body, and learning the science of what causes them

2. Learning simple ways to steady yourself in real time

3. Getting clearer about what systemic factors support resilience, and where and how you have an influence over them

The goal isn’t just personal resilience. It’s helping people stay effective, connected, and intentional while they work inside systems that are often overwhelming — and to do that in a way that gradually makes those systems more supportive of human agency, dignity, and discernment.

Three Sessions

Three weeks of foundations,
delivered in two-hour sessions

The program opens with three consecutive weekly sessions for your cohort of up to 30 participants — building from individual nervous system literacy toward institutional and community application.

Week One

The Science of Stress & Resilience

An accessible introduction to the autonomic nervous system and threat states, grounded in polyvagal theory and affective neuroscience — a clear map of what happens physiologically under chronic pressure, and why it matters for how we work and relate. Participants learn and practice micro skills to help grow awareness and agency over their stress patterns so they match what’s needed in the moment.

Week Two

Ecology of Wellbeing & Systems That Sustain Life

How does individual nervous system health scale to institutional and community health? This session introduces the ecology of wellbeing — the conditions and structures that influence individual and collective health. Participants map their own ecosystems and identify at least one leverage point they can influence in service of their personal wellbeing, while deepening their own resilience practice.

Week Three

What Does This Mean for Our Institution or Community?

Participants learn to translate nervous system science and resilience skills from a personal practice to early systems change for collective wellbeing. Participants identify a structural challenge in their institution or community and map the causes and effects of collective stress patterns within it, while continuing their own resilience practice.

Then the Practice

Eight weeks of practice labs

Eight weekly sessions · 45 minutes each · Drop-in flexibility · Consent-based

After the three foundation sessions, the cohort moves into eight weekly 45-minute facilitated practice labs — short enough to fit any schedule, consistent enough to turn skill into habit.

Drop-in flexibility is designed for real lives: missing a week is a pause, not a failure. All participation is consent-based — people do only what feels supportive.

Outcomes

What participants carry home

Eleven weeks of contact is what turns understanding into capacity. Participants finish the program able to:

  • Recognize stress, trauma, and relaxation responses as they occur in real time
  • Regulate the nervous system with practical, embodied tools — and know when to switch tools
  • Discern whether a response fits the actual situation before acting
  • Stay present with strong emotion without shutting down or lashing out
  • Set grounded boundaries around workload and information intake
  • Notice opportunities to create stability within institutions to grow collective capacity and resilience to navigate challenges constructively together.
Investment & What's Included

Sliding-scale pricing is available. Every full-price cohort helps underwrite free delivery of resilience programming in under-resourced communities.

Eleven Weeks of Facilitation

Full delivery by an Invisible Threads Lab certified facilitator — three foundation sessions and eight practice labs.

Participant Workbooks

A workbook for every participant, supporting practice between sessions and after the program closes.

Scheduling

Session timing is designed around your group’s needs.

Pre & Post Measurement

Evaluation architecture from Georgetown University, administered at program start and close.

Institutional Outcomes Report

Aggregate results and recommendations, prepared for your institution at the end of the program.
